The Q4 - Sound Surroundings

The Q4 (The Quadraphoni Quartet) is a collaboration of three (used to be four = quartet!) Dutch producers: Arts the Beatdoctor, Sense and STW. The band was formed in 2005 in Amsterdam and, since then, they have created an impressive amount of material together, coloured by a wide range of musical influences and artistic collaborations. Although hip-hop is the foundation for all their music, material ranges from jazz & dub to hardcore hip-hop beats and drum & bass. This is their most recent album, released earlier this year. Reminds me of last year's amazing 2econd Class Citizen. Excellent!

Emancipator - Safe In The Steep Cliffs

Emancipator is the project of Doug Appling, producer/multi-instrumentalist living in Portland, Oregon, USA. He self-released his first album, Soon It Will Be Cold Enough, at the age of 19 in 2006. His agile melodies layered over headnodic, immaculately-produced beats captivated fans across the internet and across the world. This is his latest album, released last month. It blends new instrumentation and organic samples with the signature Emancipator style of clean production, silky melodies and addictive drums. Dense layers of choirs, horns, American folk instruments such as the banjo and mandolin, violin and some distinct Asian influences make for a playful but refined album built out of intricate tracks listeners can enjoy on as many levels as they want. 2econd Class Citizen - A World Without

Drawing from his palette of all things psychedelic, prog-rock, folk and traditional-song related, mixed with modern techniques of sampling and sequencing, 2econd Class Citizen aka Aaron Thomason creates music which transcends a multitude of genres to distil a wholly immersive experience. The young man from London, England, makes music that he simply calls “Wyred Folk”: a hybrid of electronically produced folk combined with instrumental Hip Hop. Swinging between melancholy and pure anger, strong guitar riffs mined from old psych rock records and the weeping voices lifted from old folk music, he seems to find his real home in a crate of old and dusty vinyl. his is his full-length debut! Awesome!

DJ Krush & Toshinori Kondo - Ki-Oku

DJ Krush is known as the father of japanese trip and hip-hop. His sounds create a unique dark downtempo atmosphere. Toshinori Kondo is one of the top trumpeters from Japan. The combination of a turntablist such as Krush and the trumpeting of Kondo seems like it wouldn’t be a match. Yet, the mixture once again proves that Krush’s ability to produce with live musicians creates very impressive and moving results. Amazing album! A must!

Under Byen - Kyst

Under Byen (Danish for “Below the City”) is a Danish band founded in 1995. They are known for producing their own unorthodox interpretation of rock (but it could also be indie, folktronic, trip-hop, post rock or… something else). They rarely use guitars. Instead their soundscape is dominated by piano, cello, violin, electrically-distorted saw, organ, drums and percussion. A somewhat different vein of post-rock, infused with jazzy, folky and classical elements. Very similar to Björk's sound I guess! This is their debut album released in 1999. Great album!

It wasn’t until 2002 that he released his debut album Furious Angels in the UK. In 2003, it was re-released in a 2-CD album; the second disc provides the instrumental versions of the first disc.
