Crippled Black Phoenix - 200 Tons of Bad Luck

Crippled Black Phoenix is a collective of musicians from many other bands (including notably Iron Monkey, Gonga, Mogwai, Electric Wizard and others), formed in 2004 in the UK. Their debut album, "A Love Of Shared Disasters", was recorded at State of Art Studios in Bristol. Geoff Barrow (Portishead), who is a part owner of the studio, produced the disc and released it on his own Invada Records. The band writes what they call "endtime ballads", signifying both the slightly macabre nature of their songs and their unusual blend of styles as the final evolution in music. This strange blend has led to them being called everything from stoner-prog to freak-folk to doom. This is their 2009 brilliant album. Highly recommended!

2econd Class Citizen - A World Without

Drawing from his palette of all things psychedelic, prog-rock, folk and traditional-song related, mixed with modern techniques of sampling and sequencing, 2econd Class Citizen aka Aaron Thomason creates music which transcends a multitude of genres to distil a wholly immersive experience. The young man from London, England, makes music that he simply calls “Wyred Folk”: a hybrid of electronically produced folk combined with instrumental Hip Hop. Swinging between melancholy and pure anger, strong guitar riffs mined from old psych rock records and the weeping voices lifted from old folk music, he seems to find his real home in a crate of old and dusty vinyl. his is his full-length debut! Apparently, this one was recorded in her bedroom ..."whilst I was supposed to be finishing my English Literature degree". A great, dark album that everyone must listen!
